Korean History in the Eyes of the Dokdo
In this section, we will look at the more human side of Dokdo's history. We will learn about fisherman Yongbok An's efforts to guard Dokdo from Japanese fisherman and the Shogunate government in 1693, and Emperor Gojong's recognition of Dokdo in the Korean Imperial Ordinance No. 41 (1900) that designated Dokdo (then known as Seokdo) as an island under the jurisdiction of Ulleungdo (then known as Uldo-gun).
