Joseon Dynasty that adopted Confucianism as a founding philosophy conducted various research projects and compilation business in order to establish a national system of Confucian philosophy. Since then, Confucian ideology became internalized to some extent and scholars who paid more attention to the philosophical problems emerged accordingly. Even though what they sought was implemented through Sarim politics, it was criticized by the Realism (Sil Hak in Korean) whose movement appeared in the later part of Joeseon Dynasty and addressed the specific contradictions of reality. With the transfer of Western civilization, Joseon tried to seek a middle ground between tradition and modernity. Figures who made Joeseon Dynasty shine was born in this historical movement.
