Here are frequently asked questions and answers.
There is no search result found for the search by holding organization function.
We enter and upload all data related to old and rare Korean literature to KORCIS immediately upon the receipt of such data from various Korean and international organizations. During the uploading process, however, the relevant database will not be shown in search results. If you are unable to see any data held by an organization when using the search by holding organization function, it is likely that additional data is being uploaded to the system. You will be able to see the relevant data in the search result as soon as the uploading process is completed. Please wait for a while, and try again. If you find that there is no data shown in search results continuously, please contact the system administrator.
The search result shows so much data, and not all of them are shown on the screen.
The default number of items shown in a search result on the KORCIS website is limited to 1,000 items. You can go to the advanced search settings and increase the maximum number of items shown in a search result to 2,000 items. If you have to search for more than 2,000 items, you can filter the result by the year of publication (e.g. from 1501 to 1600), or data construction period (e.g. from 2006 to 2009), or sort the results according to a certain standard (e.g. sort the headings in ascending or descending order). You can apply various search conditions in the advanced search settings.
I cannot log in to the website.
You do not have to log in to use the search and original text image viewing services offered by KORCIS. However, some of the features offered on the website such as viewing history and data sharing require logging in to your account. If you are a member of the National Library of Korea, you can use that account to log in to the website. Please sign up for the membership at the National Library of Korea if you haven’t done so already. If you are an organization member, your ID is the library code, and the password is the same as the existing password for KOLIS-NET. Please contact us if you forgot your password.

How do I sign up for the membership for organizations?
If your organization wants to participate in KORCIS, you need to receive a library code through “KOLIS-NET” to sign up for the membership. To sign up for the membership, please log in on the KORCIS website, and proceed with ‘Apply for participation in KORCIS.’ You can find ‘Apply for participation in KORCIS’ on the right corner of the site map menu on the bottom of the page. Your application should be approved within 2 to 3 days. Participating organizations can create and edit information such as the organization’s bibliographies, and use special features such as carrying in/out MARC.
I would like to download old and rare literature MARC. What should I do?
Only the libraries that have completed the verification process can download MARC. If your library received a library code in the past, log in to the website, complete the MARC/contents download verification process, search for the data, and then download it.
What is MARC for old and rare literature?
In order to standardize information processing methods for literature, the National Library of Korea created the KORMARC format and technical rules (plan) for old and rare literature, and has implemented them since 2000. Since old literature has different formats and features from standard literature, it is difficult to apply the same cataloging rules to it. KORMARC for old literature is a set of rules developed to allow bibliographical technology and mechanical processing to standardize the cataloging method for old literature. Currently, it is being used as part of “KORMARC - General Bibliography KSX6006-0 -”.
