From May 12 (Mon) to 13 (Tue), 2025, the National Library of Korea held an international academic seminar to commemorate its 80th anniversary, under the theme "Open Metadata: Libraries & Open Science."
The seminar aimed to highlight the importance of open metadata from the perspective of a national library and to explore ways to foster collaboration among libraries and research institutions worldwide. Experts from both Korea and abroad participated, delivering presentations and engaging in discussions.
In the keynote sessions, Wolfram Horstmann, CEO of FIZ Karlsruhe – Leibniz Institute for Information Infrastructure, spoke on the topic of "Open Knowledge Infrastructure," while Oh Sam-kyun, Distinguished Professor at Sungkyunkwan University, gave a lecture titled "Strategies to Coexist with Human-Centered AI." During the themed sessions, 2 to 3 library and data experts in each session presented and discussed topics such as open science, library services, and case studies on the development and operation of open metadata. In the final panel discussion, participants reflected on the key topics covered throughout the seminar and discussed future challenges and strategies for international cooperation.
