What I wanted to do in this essay is to examine the working way of the ideology of Nationalism in the literary history of Ahn Whag's and Cho Yun-je's, and to inquire into the succession of such tradition in Cho Dong-il's theory of Korean literary history. The works on Korean literary history, based on the ideology of Nationalism, distorted the true state of affairs, and narrowed the range of Korean literary histories. It's mainly due to the problems of egocentrism and the innate defect of Nationalism. So I think that the historical perspective based on the traditional nationalistic discourse is no more valid. And through the examination of the theory of Cho Dong-il's, it's disclosed that the ideology of Nationalism still has influence upon the recent works on the history of Korean literature. So to establish the new history of Korean literature, it's essential and imminent that we should overcome and 'aufheben' the ideology of nationalism.
